Fighting with your back to the wall is all well and good—as long as you’ve chosen the right wall.
When the local authorities ask Kyle Juenger to hunt a shape-shifting Glyrinny spy, he can’t refuse. After all, he can use the reward to replace his paralyzed legs with cyberware, and maybe even to return to his home planet. Besides, he hates the morphs—those invasive, brain-eating monstrosities whose weapons cost him his legs.
Kyle’s best lead is the Scorpion, a mercenary ship armed to the teeth. Grimm, the Scorpion’s pilot and captain, fascinates Kyle. He’s everything Kyle lost with his legs, and he’s from the same home world. He’s also of the warrior caste—half priest, half savior. But Grimm’s been twisted by life as a merc, and Kyle’s stuck undercover as a criminal on the run.
That doesn’t stop Grimm from coming on to Kyle, or from insisting he’s more than the sum of his past and his useless legs. But Kyle has other concerns—like tracking a dangerous morph who could be wearing anyone’s face. And as if things weren’t complicated enough, Kyle can’t tell if Grimm is part of the solution . . . or part of the problem.

Really wished it had been a novel. I'm kind of addicted to this author now but was a little nervous about him doing scifi and disability. It was really awesome. While a bit disappointed that the character is likely going to get the use of his legs back, I did like that his great sexual experience came while disabled. Author did a good of flipping the script...no longing for suicide to spare others his miserable existence. Loved the character and how even with just a few lines one got a good feel for even the supporting cast. and of course great sex.Product details

Incursion edition by Aleksandr Voinov Romance eBooks Reviews
Good story, interesting characters and sweet romance.
A real classic Sci-Fi. Well written, exciting and suspenseful. The sequel should be equally as good.
This is a great beginning to what I hope is a series ... see my review at the sequel "Exile" ... if you read this one, the second should be automatic as it follows the same M/Cs ... plus one!
First of all, I have to say that I love this writer's work - I would probably read his grocery list & give it at least 4 stars (not really, but you get the drift...big FanGirl) )
I enjoyed this book (esp the references to the Doctrine - oh, Sergei!) but not as much as some of his other works. What I did love though was the message that we are all be more (& can be more) than what we seem at first glance - I think that is an easy life truth most of us forget.
I would like to know more about the Glyrinny (and the cover is very clever...)
I bought it, because I wanted to read something out of my comfort zone and I don't usually read military sci-fi. The only big problem it has is it is too short - everything else was fantastic! The characters were full of surprises and the end was superbly built. Loved the characters, loved the story, loved the crew, the ship and definitely the relationships.
Can't wait for it to turn into a novel ;)
This one should be enjoyed by all readers into sci fi. There is a sophisticated plot here, unique ideas to boggle the mind and fast paced plot to keep me glued to the very last page. It s a pity that this one is sort of confined by the mm romance genre it has been released and classified under because it will not reach a larger audience. Kyle is not your typical hero. Disillusioned, bitter he is somewhat a tragic figure betrayed by the system he fights for. He can never return home, a planet as far away in distance as it is not reachable emotionally. As for Grimm he is one intriguing character, more than we could ever imagined. A couple unlike anything i have read in a mm romance and that is why this story is memorable. As for their one sex scene, I could not have asked for something more different and more sexually impactful. Really unique.
I have to thank a friend for suggesting this, because it's exactly what I was looking for. A good Gay SciFi Military/Adventure.
Many people have said this, and I will reiterate a book is made on the strength of its characters. And Kyle Juenger is a strong, strong character. Suffering builds depth, and more than that, transcendence of suffering builds a hero. Voinov does both beautifully.
And the sex. This, dear readers, is how sex should be done - as part of the novel's plot, as part of the deepest truth that characters hold in them. Vindication, and release, and reluctance and helplessness and strength and an echo of the theme and motif.
Needless to say, this is one of the few - very few! - sex scenes I've ever read that I didn't skip.
Everything in the first 4/5ths of Incursion is pitch perfect. My problem, at the last star that I can't give, revolves around the end.
The resolution comes too close to the most tense, fraught and plot-edifying scene in the book. Kyle Juenger-the character we've followed with bated breath and respect from page 1-deserves better. The end, pacing/plot-wise, feels like the "calm before a storm", when the hero regroups and finds his balance with the new truths of his world, and then...the end.
If this was a series (or, more appropriately, a serial), it would get 5 stars, and I'd buy the next one. As it is, I'm missing a true denouement...
That said, as I and other readers sift through bs-writing and cliche plots and Ukes and Semes without any sense of their own identities, reading Incursion feels like finding that Renoir in a rummage-sale. A little faded, and nobody's going to give you more than a 100k for it at Christie's, but damn if it isn't awesome.
